A major concern in China with imported products and equipment is the after sales service. If handled from the HQ it often turns out to be slow and costly. It is for instance very difficult to re-export equipment for repair out of China and get them back, customs procedures to do so in exemption of duties are complex.
Training of end-user has to be in most cases proposed on the spot, in Chinese, with Chinese technical documentation.
Preparation of install site, installation, commissioning, after sales service, repair, standard exchanges are all critical support functions which need to be handled efficiently to secure a long term success on the market.
Setting up a local team and structure to handle those supporting functions can be made easier by the low cost of operation in China. But the management of this team has to be strict and in full compliance with the method of the foreign company. This requires a constant supervision locally.
